Susannah Meadows

Senior Writer at Newsweek, Contributing Writer for NYT, Author

Susannah Meadows began her journalism career as an arts and entertainment columnist after responding to a want-ad in a daily paper in Hilton Head Island, SC. Her move to New York led to positions as a reader at the Paris Review and an editorial assistant at GQ Magazine, where she was tasked with writing about hair products.

Her role expanded significantly when she joined Newsweek Magazine as a senior writer. Over a decade at Newsweek, Meadows covered pivotal events including the aftermath of 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and the Duke Lacrosse scandal. Her reporting portfolio also encompassed profiles and features on public figures such as Hillary Clinton and Serena Williams, as well as topics like bull-riding, the Christian Right, and Columbine. During the 2004 presidential race, she was assigned to John Kerry's campaign plane, providing extensive coverage and eventually ascending to the role of senior politics editor for Newsweek.com.

In addition to her work at Newsweek, Meadows has been a contributing writer to The New York Times since 2002, delivering book reviews and, starting in 2010, penning the Newly Released column in the paper's Arts section. Her personal experiences led her to author "The Other Side of Impossible," a book featuring real-life stories of families, including her own, confronting severe health challenges through conventional and unconventional medical approaches. This work has been recognized in prominent media outlets such as "Good Morning America," "Fox & Friends," NPR, Oprah Magazine, and The New York Times.

Meadows has also made notable appearances on television networks including CBS This Morning, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and ESPN, discussing topics related to chronic diseases and healthcare. She continues to reside in Brooklyn with her husband and twin sons, drawing upon her family's journey and professional insights in her ongoing writing and public speaking engagements.
