Sy Montgomery is an American naturalist, author, and scriptwriter who has made significant contributions to both children's and adult literature, having written nearly 40 books. Her work brings to life the wonders of nature and the animal kingdom. Her book "The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness" was a finalist for the 2015 National Book Award for Nonfiction and appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list. Montgomery's international bestseller "The Good Good Pig" and her other bestsellers "How To Be a Good Creature: A Memoir in 13 Animals" and "Becoming a Good Creature" have further solidified her reputation as a distinguished writer in the field.

Montgomery's children’s book "Quest for the Tree Kangaroo: An Expedition to the Cloud Forest of New Guinea" received the 2007 Orbis Pictus Award and was an Honor book for the Sibert Medal. Her work "Kakapo Rescue: Saving The World's Strangest Parrot" won the Sibert Medal in 2010, further emphasizing her skill in engaging young readers with the natural world. For National Geographic, Montgomery scripted and appeared in a half-hour segment titled "Spell of the Tiger," based on her book of the same name. She also developed and scripted "Mother Bear Man" for National Geographic, which won a Chris Award.
