Global Human Rights & Public Health Policy Expert; Former Senior Advisor for Stakeholder Engagement at the United Nations

Award-winning executive leader working with global organizations to promote women’s empowerment, press freedom, community and participatory approaches, and foresight and anticipatory action. Tala Dowlatshahi is a seasoned policy expert with significant communications, advocacy, and knowledge networking experience working with the United Nations, governments, aid agencies, the private and public sectors, as well as academic and research institutions and philanthropic and non-governmental organizations. Over the span of her career, she has worked tirelessly to promote human rights and human flourishing across the globe by working on projects aimed at facilitating dialogue and trust between different multi stakeholders, disseminating knowledge to disempowered communities, improving newborn and maternal health in Africa, and fostering economic and social opportunities for underrepresented groups including people of color and women and girls. She is currently working as a senior level global capacity building advisor and serves on the advisory board of Geneva Macro Labs where she provides expert guidance on community and participatory approaches, citizen engagement and responses and organizes trainings for senior leadership.

Between 2013 and 2016, she served in the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly (OPGA). As Senior Advisor for Stakeholder Engagement, she oversaw and coordinated the implementation of GA mandates and initiatives on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), civil society, gender, refugees and migrants, information and technology, and health. She launched the United States chapter of Reporters sans Frontieres (RSF) in 2002 as a director of US operations and served on their board for nearly a decade.
