Tammy Bruce

Political Commentator, Talk Radio Show Host & Author

Tammy Bruce has been described as "an openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted-for-President Reagan progressive feminist."

A lifelong Democrat, she describes herself as a classical liberal although most of her views are sharply at odds with the positions of Democratic or liberal activists, whom she routinely accuses of groupthink. For seven years, Bruce served as president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) (1990-1996) and mobilized activists locally and nationally on a whole range of issues, including women's image in media, child care, health care, violence against women, economics, and domestic violence. Bruce also served two years on the board of directors for NOW, which she heavily criticizes in her last book. During the early 1990s she spearheaded the campaign to bring awareness to the sexualized violence of the book "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis by calling for a boycott of all other books published by Knopf for one year.

Bruce holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of Southern California. She notes on her website that her interest in politics and individual liberty was sparked during her childhood in part because of the work of authors Ray Bradbury and George Orwell, both of whom remain her favorite writers today.
