Dr. Tasuko Honjo is a Japanese immunologist who contributed to the discovery of mechanisms and proteins critical to the regulation of immune responses and whose work led to the development of novel immunotherapies against cancer. Honjo was recognized for his work with the 2018 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, which he shared with American immunologist James P. Allison.

Dr. Honjo is a professor emeritus at Kyoto University and distinguished professor and deputy director-general at the Kyoto University Institute for Advanced Study. After earning his M.D. in 1966, Dr. Honjo was a research fellow in the United States from 1971 to 1974 at the Carnegie Institution of Washington and the National Institutes of Health.

He received his Ph.D. in 1975 from Kyoto University, where he has served on the faculty since 1984. Previously he was a faculty member at The Tokyo University (1974–1979) and Osaka University (1979–1984).
