Teri Shanahan is Vice President of Sustainability for International Paper, based in Memphis, Tenn. Her role was newly established early in 2012. Teri has been with International Paper since 1991 and has held positions in sales (Chicago, Newport Beach, and Memphis) and marketing (Memphis, the Netherlands) and business management (Memphis). She managed International Paper’s North American merchant papers business and earlier managed its global pulp business. Prior to joining the company, she served for eight years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, and was the first woman to qualify as a Surface Warfare Officer on board a combatant ship. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School. She is married to Tad Dutch, and they have one daughter, Haley.
