The Academy Is… was a rock band from Chicago, Illinois that formed in 2003 and disbanded in 2011. The original line-up of consisted of lead vocalist William Beckett, bassist Adam T. Siska, guitarist Mike Carden, guitarist AJ LaTrace and drummer Michael DelPrincipe.
The band began as The Academy and released their self-titled EP in 2004. The impact of the EP brought a record deal offer from Fueled by Ramen, which the band went on to sign with. Now known as The Academy Is…, their full-length debut, “Almost Here,” arrived in 2005, peaking at #7 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, #16 on the Independent Albums chart and #185 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
The same year saw the addition of Thomas Conrad, who replaced LaTrace, and Andy Mrotek, who replaced DelPrincipe. 2006 saw Conrad exit the band and Michael Guy Chislett joined. A stint on the Warped Tour followed as the band began to write material for their next album, “Santi,” which arrived in 2007. The album peaked at #32 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the single, “We've Got a Big Mess on Our Hands.”
The band's third studio album, “Fast Times at Barrington High,” emerged in 2008, peaking at #17 on the Billboard 200. Despite the band's growing success and strong fan base, in 2011 Mrotek and Chislett decided to part ways with the band in order to pursue their own musical careers.
Now a trio, they announced they would go back into the studio to record a new album. As recording got under way for the band's fourth studio album, the remaining members decided to call it quits, officially disbanding in 2011.
