The Airborne Toxic Event

American Indie Rock Band

The Airborne Toxic Event is an American indie rock band from Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. It consists of Mikel Jollett (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steven Chen (guitar, keyboards), Noah Harmon (electric bass, upright bass, backing vocals), Daren Taylor (drums) and Anna Bulbrook (viola, keyboards, tambourine, backing vocals). Named after a section of the book “White Noise,” by Don DeLillo, the group is known for its blend of rock music and orchestral arrangements, having performed frequently with the Calder Quartet, a string quartet based in Los Angeles. The group has also played concerts with the Louisville Orchestra and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

They released their self-titled, debut album in 2008 on Majordomo Records/Shout! Factory. The album was re-released by Island Records in 2009 following the band's signing to the label. The entire album was recorded using a recording studio in the home of Pete Min, the band's producer. It peaked at #35 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart and #108 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. The first single was “Sometime Around Midnight,” which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.

The Airborne Toxic Event's second album, “All at Once,” was released in 2011. It debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200, #4 on the Alternative Albums chart and #5 on the Rock Albums chart. The lead single, “Changing” reached #10 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and #22 on the Rock Songs chart.
