The Clark Sisters

Grammy Award-Winning Female Gospel Group

The Clark Sisters are a gospel vocal group comprised of four siblings: Jacky Clark Chisholm, Elbernita "Twinkie" Clark, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Karen Clark Sheard. Their work in the gospel genre played a role in bringing gospel music to the mainstream, and they are, hence, hailed as pioneers of contemporary gospel. The original group also included their sister, Denise "Niecy" Clark-Bradford.

The Clark Sisters discography is vast and includes well-received hits such as "Is My Living in Vain", "Praise the Lord (Hallelujah)", and "Jesus Is a Love Song". The group's success can be seen in their record sales, as they are the highest-selling female gospel group in history.

In recognition of their contribution to music, The Clark Sisters have been showered with numerous accolades, including two Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. They have also received the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award at the 35th Annual Stellar Awards. They have been inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. Their influence on the music industry is palpable, with their group style, known as "the Clark Sound", inspiring numerous artists such as Faith Evans, Beyoncé, and Mary J. Blige.

After Denise's departure from the group in 1986, the remaining sisters continued to release music and embarked on solo careers. Twinkie Clark-Terrell, Karen Clark Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Jacky Clark-Chisholm all released solo albums.

The Clark Sisters' music has transcended the gospel genre, finding its way into various television shows and movies. Their story was adapted into a biopic titled "The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel," on Lifetime.
