Jayceon Terrell Taylor, known by his stage name, The Game, is a rapper, entrepreneur, record producer, and actor. The Game is best known as a rapper in the West Coast hip-hop scene and for being one of Dr. Dre's signers under Aftermath Records. He is also known for his significant role in reviving the West Coast hip-hop scene and bringing it back into mainstream music.
Born in Compton, California, he released his first mixtape in 2002 following his recovery from gunshot wounds. He was subsequently discovered by Dr. Dre and Sean Combs, leading to his signing to Aftermath Entertainment. He rose to fame in 2005 with the success of his major-label debut album, "The Documentary," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold over five million copies worldwide. His follow-up albums, such as "Doctor's Advocate" and "The R.E.D. Album" also achieved substantial success. His album "LAX," released in 2008, debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
Throughout his career, The Game has been known for his disputes with other artists, most notably 50 Cent and G-Unit. Despite these conflicts, he has been honored with several award nominations and won the 2007 and 2008 Ozone Awards for Best West Coast Rap Album and Best West Coast Rap Artist, respectively. His contributions to the hip-hop industry have also led to features in various documentaries such as Beef III.
Besides his music career, The Game has ventured into acting, appearing in films and television shows, and even lent his voice to video games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. He also embarked on several entrepreneurial ventures, founding record labels such as The Black Wall Street Records and Prolific Records. He released a mixtape titled "Operation Kill Everything" after leaving Interscope Records. His most recent studio album, "Born 2 Rap," was released in 2019. As of 2021, he is working on a new project tentatively titled "30 for 30."
Despite his tumultuous career marked by legal issues and feuds, The Game has left a significant mark on the hip-hop industry. He is an avid supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and has, on several occasions, honored the memory of those who died during the Armenian Genocide. His impressive discography, spanning over two decades, and his influential role in the West Coast hip-hop scene have solidified his place in the music industry.
