He is best known for his roles in Rookie of the Year (1993), A Kid in King Arthur's Court (1995), and American Pie (1999). He was born to Karen Nicholas in Las Vegas, Nevada, and his elder brother of actor Tim Scarne. Tim Scarne and Thomas Ian Nicholas starred together in an american film called LA DJ (2004).

He appeared in all three films in the American Pie franchise as the character Kevin Myers and as Frank Sinatra, Jr. in the Showtime movie Stealing Sinatra.

Nicholas was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, the son of Marla Nicholas, an acting school administrator and professional dancer.Nicholas has six siblings, including his older brother, Tim Scarne, who is a D.J.

Nicholas released his debut album, Without Warning January 15, 2008.

"I started playing guitar when I was 14. I couldn't stop playing... I am very blessed and thankful for all that has happened." he says.

Nicholas can be seen playing a rookie cop in the upcoming drama Life Is Hot in Cracktown.

On June 30th, 2010, Nicholas threw out the first pitch at the Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
