Australian Actor Known for "The Outsiders"

Thomas M. Wright has forged a distinct path as an actor, producer, director and writer across many forms.

Among his acting credits, Wright garnered international recognition, including a 2013 Critics’ Choice Award nomination, for his leading role opposite Elisabeth Moss in Jane Campion’s “Top of the Lake” for Sundance Channel/BBC. He also portrayed ‘Steven Linder’ in the 2014 Peabody Award-winning FX series “The Bridge,” based on the Scandinavian series “Bron.”

On the big screen, audiences can see Wright alongside Emily Watson, Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal in Baltasar Kormakur’s “Everest,” a retelling of the 1996 ‘Into Thin Air’ climbing disaster, for Working Title/Universal. His other film work includes the critically acclaimed independent feature “Van Diemen’s Land” and Robert Connolly’s award-winning “Balibo,” where he portrayed the murdered journalist Brian Peters.

For the theatre, Wright has played leading roles and directed productions for many mainstage companies in his home country of Australia, including Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre, Belvoir St. and Adelaide Festival. In 2011, he played the title role of the Malthouse Theatre/Sydney Theatre Company production of “Baal,” commissioned by artistic directors Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton.
