Thomas Nides
Vice Chairman of Strategy & Client Relations at Blackstone; Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel
Thomas R. Nides has a diverse background in both public service and private sector leadership. His diplomatic skills and depth of understanding in international relations were put to good use when he served as the U.S. ambassador to Israel from December 2021 to July 2023. Prior to this, Nides was the deputy secretary of state for management and resources during the Obama administration from 2011 to 2013. His career in finance is also noteworthy; he was the managing director and vice-chairman of Morgan Stanley from 2013 to 2021, and he held the position of Chief Administrative Officer of Credit Suisse First Boston from 2001 to 2004. In a brief stint, he also served as Worldwide President and Chief Executive Officer of Burson-Marsteller. Currently, Nides is the vice chairman of strategy and client relations at Blackstone.
Nides' influence is not limited to the public and private sectors; he has also had significant roles in numerous non-profit organizations. He has served on the boards of esteemed organizations such as the Atlantic Council, the International Rescue Committee, the Partnership for Public Service, and the Urban Alliance Foundation. His commitment to public service and international discourse is evident from his tenure as the Chairman of the Board of the Woodrow Wilson Center from 2013 to 2017. Moreover, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, an organization dedicated to improving understanding of global affairs. He was recognized as one of the fifty most influential Jews for 2022 by The Jerusalem Post, highlighting his substantial contributions to international affairs.
Nides is married to Virginia Carpenter Moseley, who currently serves as CNN's senior vice president of newsgathering for the network's U.S. operation. Nides' recent public appearance at the Aspen Ideas Festival in the discussion, "The Future of the Middle East: Diplomatic Perspectives," emphasizes his continued involvement in discussions on global issues.
