Thomas Rhett Akins Jr., known by his stage name Thomas Rhett, is a country music singer-songwriter. His father is the singer Rhett Akins. Thanks to his father's connections in country music, Rhett grew up knowing country music legends such as Tim McGraw and Brooks & Dunn.
After high school, Rhett went to college at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, to study communications, mainly because his friends were going to college and he didn't know what else to do. Rhett's interest in music grew throughout the years and as a result, he failed to keep a promise he'd made to his mom -- he dropped out of college when he was 20 to pursue a career in music. Rhett released his debut album, It Goes Like This, in October of 2013, and has achieved great mainstream country success since then.
Rhett's best-known songs include "It Goes Like This," "Marry Me," "Sixteen," and "Remember You Young." In a short time, Rhett has racked up over 10 #1 charting singles on the Country Airplay charts, including "It Goes Like This," "Marry Me," "Sixteen," and "Remember You Young."
In addition to writing much of his own material, Rhett has written singles for the likes of Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Florida Georgia Line, LoCash, and Michael Ray.
Rhett is married to Lauren Akins, whom he has known since first grade.
