Thor Muller

Internet Entrepreneur

Thor Muller credits any success he's had as a five-time serial entrepreneur to obsessive curiosity, chance occurrences, and a dangerous willingness to break things. He is the co-founder and former chief technology officer of Get Satisfaction, a groundbreaking online customer community platform used by over 65,000 companies. Muller started one of the world’s first Web design agencies in 1995, acquired by Frog Design to form its renowned global Internet practice. Since then he has been involved as a founder or advisor in several industries in the midst of extreme change, including health care, education and media (publishing/music). Today he is an invited speaker at organizations, conferences and universities, and occasional host of his own sing-along piano bar.

Along with Lane Becker, Muller is the co-author of Get Lucky: How to Put Serendipity to Work for You and Your Business. Building on the research of scientists and the behaviors of some of the world's smartest entrepreneurs, Muller and Becker demystify "planned serendipity"—the ability to harness unexpected discoveries—and distill it into eight skills that individuals and businesses alike can put into practice today: motion, preparation, divergence, commitment, activation, connection, permeability, and attraction.

Planned serendipity is not an abstract, magical notion, but the essential skill you need to build a business in a time of accelerating, vertigo-inducing change. Well-known large companies and up-and-coming smaller organizations have already discovered that planned serendipity produces quantifiable results like breakthrough ideas, relationships that matter, effortless cooperation, and more.

Thor Muller can help audiences—from technology and corporate to education and healthcare—understand how to harness planned serendipity and put it to work for their industry.
