He frequently addresses the significance of design thinking, creative leadership, and innovation to business leaders and designers globally. He partakes in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and his presentations "Serious Play" and "Change by Design" are featured on TED.com.
An industrial designer by training, Brown has received multiple design awards and has showcased his work at the Axis Gallery in Tokyo, the Design Museum in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has a keen interest in the intersection of technology and the arts and explores how design can enhance the lives of individuals in emerging economies.
In addition to his work in design, Brown serves as a sports analyst, contributing to ESPN as a college football analyst and co-hosting a show on a Dallas CBS affiliate. His engagement with sports extends to his background as a World Cup soccer player for New Zealand.
Brown also serves on the Board of Directors of Steelcase Inc., and is a member of the board of trustees of IDEO.org. His role extends to the World Economic Forum Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution as a member of the Board of Advisors. A prolific writer, Brown contributes to Harvard Business Review, The Economist, and other notable publications. His notable book, "Change by Design," focused on how design thinking transforms organizations, was published by Harper Business in September 2009 and updated in 2019.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Brown is actively involved in various charitable activities, including the "9-1-1 for Kids" program, which educates children on emergency preparedness, and he serves as an ambassador for the President's Physical Fitness Council. His commitment to sustainability is evident in his role as Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Allbirds, a company recognized for its innovative use of natural materials in footwear. Allbirds's commitment to sustainability is further highlighted by its ZQ certification for merino wool and its status as a certified B-Corporation.
