Tina Vick

Speaker, Principal, Broker/Owner of Tina L. Vick Realty, Newport News City Councilwoman, Author of "Growing Up Vick"

Tina L. Vick, aunt of NFL Superstar Michael Vick, was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia in the city’s toughest community. She was educated in the public school system and graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School in 1980. She was the recipient of the very first public housing scholarship. Because of it, she was able to obtain a college education where she developed a hard work ethic. Vick worked while going to school because she knew she didn't want to stay poor. In 1984 she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

For over 30 years, Vick has helped change the mindset of those around her. Tina and the Vick family are living proof that poverty is not permanent. She has dedicated a large majority of her life to inspiring others and helping them to believe in their dreams. In 2013, she started a Girl’s Camp to help end teen pregnancy and help young people in her community have hope and a better future.

Vick is a bestselling author, speaker, community activist, and principal broker of Tina L. Vick Realty & Development Company, LLC. Her latest book,” Growing Up Vick: The Strength and Resilience of the Vick Family,” is a compelling story that reveals many of the challenges of being related to a superstar athlete who was once the highest paid in NFL history. She also discusses the dark side and the devastating days of the Mike Vick dog-fighting saga which led to his fall from grace.

Vick was elected to her local city council in 2008. Since being in elected office, Vick has worked to transform her district, a district underserved because of the racial and class structure. Her voice as an advocate for new housing in her district, brought the creation of new apartment units for mixed income families. Under Vick’s leadership, there are millions of dollars in infrastructure improvements, increased code enforcement, a new Walmart and the latest is the new grocery store, Jim’s Local Market, developed in what was known as a food dessert. She is currently serving as the Vice-Mayor.

The dynamic Vick serves and has been a member of several organizations and boards that concern improved housing, workforce and community development. She is the recipient of numerous awards and has been featured in several magazines including, “MyTime for Women.” Vick has two children, her daughter, Teunsha and son Terrance. She has three grandsons, Shamar, Brandon and Tyson.Tina L. Vick, aunt of NFL Superstar Michael Vick, was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia in the city’s toughest community.
