Hailing from Arlington, Texas, Todrick Hall is an American entertainer who rose to fame after making it to the semi-finals of the ninth season of American Idol in 2010. A man of many talents that include singing, acting, dance choreography, and directing, Hall decided to transform his brief moment of into a fully-fledged career that traversed the arts. He began by creating an ongoing series of viral videos dedicated to some of his favorite music artists. Stating that the idea of talent show graduates releasing albums or EPs was a tried and tested idea, he ultimately decided to pursue the route of combining his many talents using the resources available through online streaming platform YouTube. The move proved to be a successful one and his YouTube creations quickly became online sensations -- most notably due to their flash mob videos for Ariana Grande and Beyoncé, and for directing and starring in a reinvention of The Wizard of Oz. His YouTube channel eventually exceeded two-million subscribers. Hall landed a starring role in a pop music safety video commissioned by Virgin America (for which he also wrote the music), gained a spot on the judge's panel of RuPauls All Stars Drag Race, and starred in his own MTV documentary series, Todrick. In December 2013, he released a Christmas record, Dear Santa, and followed up with an hour-long visual album, Straight Outta Oz, in summer 2016. Hall went out on tour to promote the release later that year.
In 2010, Hall joined the cast of the Tony Award-winning musical "Memphis." He was previously seen in the Broadway musical "The Color Purple" from June 2007 until January 2008 playing the role of Bobby and the understudy to Harpo. In addition to The Color Purple, he has appeared in The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and "Hairspray."
Hall auditioned for American Idol Season 9 in Dallas, TX in 2009. He made it all the way to the semi-finals after singing songs such as "What's Love Got to Do with It" (by Tina Turner) and "Since U Been Gone (by Kelly Clarkson)."
Hall's first viral video was The McDonalds Drive Thru Song uploaded on May 27, 2010. As of January 2014, the video has over 7 million views. Hall followed this video with two sequels. Hall has many other renditions involving large fast food franchises: Starbucks, Subway, Dominos and Coca-Cola (performed in Times Square - Manhattan, NY).
Hall's work led him to collaborate with Beyonce on her new album Beyoncé (2013) as a choreographer for the song entitled "Blow."
