Costume Designer Known for "House of Cards," "Happy-ish," & 'Saturday Night Live"

Tom Broecker, is the six time Emmy-nominated acclaimed Costume Designer who has been behind "Saturday Night Live" for over 20 years. In addition to his work on "SNL," Tom created the sophisticated wardrobes on "House of Cards" as well as Liz Lemon’s hoodie-and-blazer combo and the other costumes on "30 Rock." Alec Baldwin liked Tom’s work so much, that he purchased an assortment of tailored clothing from NBC when the show wrapped.He has also been nominated for four Costume Designers Guild Awards,including a win this year for best Costume Design in “Outstanding Contemporary Television Series”for House of Cards (same category nominee for Saturday Night Live in 2014).

Some of Tom’s other television and film projects include "The Big C," "Joyful Noise," "In Treatment" and "The Comeback." The varied Costume Design work featured on all of his shows clearly demonstrates his wide-ranging expertise and position as one of the leading Costume Designers working today. He has also consulted for a well-known fashion brand offering his design, fashion and fabric tips.

Tom’s Broadway credits include "Will Ferrell: You’re Welcome America," "A Final Night with George W Bush," "Everyday Rapture" and David Mamet’s "Race." He has designed for dozens of theaters in New York and across the country including The Public, Playwrights Horizons, Yale Repertory, Shakespeare Theatre, CenterStage, and the Opera Theatre of St. Louis.

He recently worked on a World Premiere play by Amanda Peet and starring Sarah Jessica Parker for the Manhattan Theatre Club as well as a pilot, "Trending Down," for Showtime. Tom just completed filming the HBO pilot, "Ballers," starring Dwayne Johnson. It’s about the life of football players in Miami during the off-season.

Tom was born in Indiana. His passion for design and fashion began as a young boy helping his grandmother sew Halloween costumes. To this day, he still uses her sewing machine. Tom studied at the renowned Julliard School and graduated from the Yale School of Drama.
