Prior to starting his career as an author, publisher, and marketer, Morkes served in the US Army as a Commander, Intel and Operations Officer, Brigade Logistics Officer, Company Executive Officer, Convoy Security Gun Truck Platoon Leader, and a Fuel and Water Platoon Leader.

Morkes attended West Point.
