Head Women's Basketball Coach at University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Tomekia Reed is the Head Coach of the Charlotte 49ers, the women's basketball team at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She was previously Head Coach at Jackson State University from 2018 to 2024, where she established herself as a driving force behind the Lady Tigers' dominance in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). At Jackson State, Reed led the Lady Tigers to five consecutive SWAC regular-season titles, three consecutive SWAC tournament titles and three NCAA appearances. She is a three-time National HBCU Coach of the Year.

Reed's journey in basketball began as a standout player at Southern Miss and Georgia Southwestern State University. She began her coaching career at South Georgia Technical College, where she served as assistant women's basketball coach for three seasons. Reed also had assistant coaching stops at Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, and New Orleans, serving as recruiting coordinator at each school during her respective stints. Prior to Jackson State, Reed had a successful three-year stint as coach of the Hinds Community College women’s basketball team.

Reed earned an associate’s degree in sports medicine from Hinds and a bachelor’s in exercise science from Georgia Southwestern.
