International Autistic Advocate, Media Personality & Author of "An Autism Unscripted Life"

Tony Hernandez Pumarejo is an autistic self-advocate, motivational speaker, author, writer, life coach, consultant and media personality. Pumarejo was diagnosed with autism at age 3. As an autistic person, Pumarejo faced different challenges, such as: being nonverbal until age 4, social communication, severe anxiety, repetitive behavior, depression, among others. He struggled with bullying in school, changes in his life and in employment.

Pumarejo has been able to overcome these challenges through not only formal therapies like speech, behavior and occupational. But his true therapy was the school of hard knocks: overcoming negative situations in life and learning from them. He has been able to achieve important goals in his life, such as: graduating with his bachelor's degree, writing his own book, becoming a speaker, having his own tv show, and today, being an advocate for Autism.

In this presentation, Tony will speak about the challenges that law enforcement face in working and handling interactions with autistic citizens.

NEURODIVERSITY IN FAITH BASED COMMUNITIES

In this presentation, Tony will speak about the challenges that faith based communities face in terms of having a more welcoming environment for special needs families. The objective is to find ways towards creating effective programs to integrate special needs families within their faith-based communities.

REJECTION AND BULLYING: THE IMPORTANCE AND MORE INCLUSIVE WORLD FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

In this presentation, autistic self advocate and motivational speaker Tony talk about the challenges and struggles that he went through with bullying. Tony will be talking in detail about the struggles that he went through and will focus on solutions that schools can implement towards creating a more inclusive environment in the classroom.

Objectives:

  • Speaker will talk about his challenges with bullying and how it impacted his life.

  • Create programs and initiatives towards creating a more welcoming environment for special ed students in the classroom.

BREAKING BARRIERS: SURVIVING AS AN AUTISTIC IN NEUROTIPICAL WORKPLACE

  • The speaker will talk about his experiences in the workplace and how he overcame the challenges of working in a fast paced and socially driven working environment.

  • Be open minded and talk about autistic people exceeding and working in any industry, not on specific roles based on limitations and stereotypes.

  • Go beyond simply asking for accommodations and help each autistic person advocate for opportunities to grow and have a great career, beyond simply getting a job.

  • Create an environment in our society which we focus on giving people on the spectrum the tools and resources to achieve their true potential in life.

NON VERBAL TO BEING ON TV: AN AUTISM UNSCRIPTED LIFE

In this presentation, autistic self-advocate, manager, tv collaborator, writer and speaker Tony Hernandez Pumarejo will briefly talk about his life with ASD.

The speaker will be discussing some of the key life challenges that he went through and how he was able accomplish key life goals as an adult such as college graduation, full time employment as manager, book author, public speaker and tv collaborator. Then, we will go over the principles that need to be implemented in order to achieve our mission as a community, which is to help each person with ASD to achieve his or her purpose in life.
