Author, Media Consultant & Professor Emeritus of Journalism and Digital Communication at the University of South Florida

Tony Silvia's professional background is in television news, having worked as a consumer reporter and news anchor at various television stations in local markets and as a correspondent for CNN, based in Atlanta. He has covered stories at the U.S. Supreme Court, Congress, and the White House. He has produced stories broadcast on PBS affiliates as well as for the NBC owned station in San Diego, KNSD. He has been honored with three Emmy Award nominations, an Associated Press Award for best documentary, has authored dozens of articles in academic and industry journals, and numerous books, including "Student Television in America: Channels of Change," "Global News: Perspectives on the Information Age," "Baseball Over the Air: The National Pastime on the Radio and in the Imagination," "Baseball’s Father and Son Broadcasters," "Power Performance: Multimedia Storytelling for Journalism and Public Relations," with a foreword by Lester Holt of NBC News, and the biography of legendary CBS News correspondent Robert Pierpoint, titled "Robert Pierpoint: A Life at CBS News,", with a foreword by Bob Schieffer of CBS News.

Silvia is a Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg’s Department of Journalism and Media Studies. He joined USFSP from the University of RI, where he had been a faculty member since 1988. In his various roles at URI, he served as chair of the department of journalism and director of the public relations studies program.
