Trey Anthony is a multi-talented Canadian playwright, producer, and actress best known for her groundbreaking work in theatre and television. She gained widespread recognition with her critically acclaimed play "_da Kink in My Hair," which became one of Canada's most successful productions and was later adapted into a popular television series on Global TV. The play was celebrated for its honest portrayal of Black women's experiences and cultural identity, exploring themes of beauty, self-acceptance, and resilience.
Anthony's work often focuses on stories that amplify underrepresented voices, particularly those of Black women and the LGBTQ+ community. Her unique ability to blend humor and poignant social commentary has made her a prominent voice in Canadian entertainment. In addition to her success with "_da Kink in My Hair," she has written and produced numerous other works, including the thought-provoking play "How Black Mothers Say I Love You," which explores the complexities of family, immigration, and intergenerational trauma.
Beyond theatre, Anthony is a sought-after speaker, life coach, and advocate for mental health and wellness. She uses her platform to promote self-empowerment, particularly for women of color, and addresses topics like mental health, spirituality, and self-love in her work. Her viral TedxToronto talk, "Coming Out of Your Box," received three standing ovations. In 2020, she authored the book "Black Girl in Love (with Herself)," a memoir and self-help guide that encourages readers to prioritize their mental health and personal growth.
Anthony's influence extends beyond the arts into social activism, where she continues to challenge stereotypes and fight for more diverse representation in media. She remains a powerful force in reshaping the narrative for marginalized communities in Canada and beyond.
