Tristan Walker

Founder & CEO at Walker & Company Brands, Inc. & Former VP of Foursquare

Tristan Walker is a technology entrepreneur who pays it forward by helping minority students break into the industry. He took a big step in June 2012 when he left his high-profile position as director of business development for Foursquare for a position at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and now founder of Walker & Company Brands.

A native of Queens, N.Y., Walker was valedictorian when he graduated from Stony Brook University. Walker hated being an oil trader on Wall Street, so he quit and went to Stanford for an MBA. He started as a volunteer at FourSquare and was its director of business development two years later. In July 2012 he launched CODE2040, a nonprofit that matches high performing black and Latino software engineering students with tech companies for summer internships. Five engineers in the inaugural class earned fellowships with firms such as Tumblr, Jawbone and RockMelt. "We need to crack the code," Walker told The Root. "We need to match the skills that tech companies want with the talented people who may not have access."
