Ty Smith enlisted in the United States Navy on September 30th, 1996. His career saw him deployed to the Middle East multiple times as a highly regarded Navy SEAL. Part of his service included a nearly five-year term as a military police officer in Sardinia, Italy. In October of 2001, shortly after the September 11th terror attack, Smith was accepted to Basic Underwater Demolition School (BUD/S). He graduated from this grueling training in the Spring of 2003 and was assigned to SEAL Team 8 in Little Creek, VA. Smith also served as a Naval Special Warfare training instructor for three years before being assigned to SEAL Team One in Coronado, CA.

During his service, Smith pursued further education. He completed a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management from Ashford University and an MBA from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business. After 20 years of faithful and honorable service, Smith retired from naval service on May 20th, 2016.

Following his retirement, Smith founded and became the CEO president of CommSafe AI, a technology company that specializes in conflict and violence prevention. The company aims to protect companies' people, brand, reputation, and intellectual property by identifying instances of harassment, discrimination, and threats in real time. In addition to his leadership role at CommSafe AI, Smith holds Board positions at Ashford University and the University of Arizona Global Campus. He also lends his expertise as a mentor at the San Diego State University Lavin Entrepreneurship Center and The Honor Foundation.
