Founder Saif Center of Innovation (SCI)

Umar Saif is Associate Professor of Computer Science at Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan and a serial entrepreneur. His focus is on technologies that bridge the digital divide. Saif developed BitMate, a BitTorrent client for low-bandwidth connections, which has more than 30,000 users from 172 countries. He is the inventor of the Poor Man's Broadband system that enables people in the developing world to access the Internet at near-broadband speeds by combining their unused bandwidth. He co-founded SMSall.pk, which is currently the equivalent of Twitter in Pakistan. Over four billion SMS have been sent using SMSall.pk. Saif is a Co-Founder of See'n'Report, a leading provider of citizen journalism solutions Dr. Saif was named one of the top 35 young innovators in the world by Technology Review in 2011. He is a recipient of the MIT Technovator Award, Mark Weiser Award, Digital Inclusion Award from Microsoft Research and the IDG Technology Pioneer Award. He founded Pakistan's first start-up incubator in Pakistan, called SCI. Before moving to Pakistan, Saif worked at MIT and received a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
