At the age of 11 years Umaria started her professional career where she performed for a large audience along with her older sister, Umaria who is one of the most sought-after top female vocalists in Sri Lanka.She joined up with the biggest names of the Sri Lankan music industry, BNS, for her debut in Sri Lankan musical the age of 14. Her songs continuously hit the top charts. With her songs becoming instant hits Umaria was invited by BNS to perform and be part of musical shows. So far she has performed in both local and international musical shows and won the hearts of audiences all over the world with her unique style of performance.Umaria is the youngest singer who had the honour of being nominated for the Best Singer Award for two years in a row, for the years 2007 and 2008, at Sri Lanka's premier Film Awards- Sarasaviya Film Awards, she was also nominated for best music video 2010.In the recent past she took part in the 11th Asia music festival and contestants being the only Sri Lankan contestant to with the silver with a difference of 0.1 to the Gold.Later on in July where she participated in the Best original song contest in Izmir Turkey and won the Bronze award whilst being the only Asian to take part in the competition and bringing home a prestigious Bronze award. In August 2011, Umaria along with her sister repsresented Sri Lanka yet again, in Ukraine at the Crimea Music Festival and won the Bronze Award from a selection of 20 countries.
