Usama Hasan        

Imam, Al-Tawhid Mosque and Senior Lecturer Middlesex University

Usama Hasan is an imam of Al-Tawhid Mosque in London. He is also a senior lecturer in computing science at Middlesex University, a former planetarium lecturer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, and a visiting lecturer at the newly established Cambridge Muslim College. He has served as a voluntary, part-time imam at various mosques in London and Cambridge for more than 25 years.

While an undergraduate at Cambridge University, he travelled to Afghanistan in 1990 and briefly trained and fought with the Muhajedin against the Afghan communist forces.

Dr. Hasan holds an MA in theoretical physics from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in mathematics at King’s College, London. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Imperial College, University of London. Dr. Hasan is currently a member of the Academics and Theologians Roundtable, working with the Preventing Violent Extremism unit of the British government. He has been an official delegate of the British government promoting moderate visions of Islam in trips to Egypt, Syria and most recently Helmand, Afghanistan in August 2010.
