Venky Ganesan

Managing Director, Menlo Ventures

Venky Ganesan slips again on the Midas List but it hanging in thanks to an early (second round) bet on Palo Alto Networks in 2007, which had one of the largest IPOs of 2012. Ganesan joined Menlo Ventures in 2013 after almost 15 years at Globespan Capital Partners. From his first job washing dishes in a restaurant to advising companies like Palo Alto Networks, oDesk and Virident Systems, Ganesan says humble beginnings are where he gets his passion for building companies. It's a path he knows first-hand as the former cofounder of Trigo Technologies, which IBM acquired in 2004. Ganesan is sitting on solid deals with online game shop Machine Zone and real estate brokerage Redfin, and exited Amobee (acquired by SingTel for $321 million) in 2012. This past year he invested in Rover.com, Gild, and Avi Networks and has board seats at Bityota, Gild and Strongmail. Venky is working to increase the diversity in venture capital and tech companies worldwide.
