Verna Lavender      

Head of Guy’s Cancer Academy & President of UK Oncology Nursing Society

Verna Lavender is a registered nurse, scientist and cancer nurse academic. She works at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust as head of Guy’s Cancer Academy and has an honorary senior clinical lectureship at King’s College London.

Lavender is also president-elect of the UK Oncology Nursing Society, and a member of the conference management committee of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care. Since qualifying as a nurse in 1987, she has worked in acute and primary care, cancer-care education and training, service improvement and research, and for Macmillan Cancer Support as an education facilitator.

She is a winner of the RCNi Excellence in Cancer Research Award (2016). Her current research focuses on nursing people receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments and models of nursing care. Lavender has a special interest in systematic reviews, research with teenagers and young adults with cancer, and patients receiving anti-cancer treatments and experimental cancer treatments/ cancer clinical trials.

Currently, she is a senior lecturer in Cancer Care in the Department of Nursing at Oxford Brookes University in England.
