Victor Schwartz
Victor Schwartz is a Partner and chairs the firm's Public Policy Group.
The focus of the group is to integrate litigation, government affairs and public relations. Victor has an active appellate practice and advices product manufacturers on liability issues.
Victor Schwartz served as a professor and dean at the University of Cincinnati College of Law prior to entering the full time practice of law. He currently sits on the College's Board of Visitors.
As Chairman of the Federal Inter-Agency Task Force on Product Liability, he received the Department of Commerce Secretary's Award for Professional Excellent for his government service. He helped draft the Uniform Product Liability Act and the Risk Retention Act.
For over two decades, Victor Schwartz has been co-author of the most widely used torts casebook in the United States, Prosser, Wade and Schwartz's Torts (10th ed. 2000). He also authored Comparative Negligence, and co-authored Guide to Multistate Litigation.
Victor is a member of the American Law Institute (ALI) and served on the Advisory Committee to the Restatement (Third) of Torts: Products Liability and Apportionment of Liability Projects. He currently serves on the Advisory Committee to the Restatement (Third) of Torts: General Principles. He was inducted as a Life Member of the ALI in 1997.
He serves as General Counsel to the American Tort Reform Association. He co-chairs the Civil Justice Task Force of the American Legislative Exchange Council and chairs the American Bar Association's Legislative Subcommittee of the Product Liability Committee.
Sought by print and broadcast media, Victor Schwartz is frequently quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and The New York Times and has appeared on Oprah, 60 Minutes and network news programs. He and his Public Policy Group colleagues were the recipients of the Phillip Burton Award for Outstanding Legal Scholarship. In 2003, Victor was named one of the nation's Legal Reform Champions by Chief Legal Executive magazine; he was also named the Private Sector Person of 2003 by the American Legislative Exchange Council, a group of more than 3,000 state legislators.
In the light of his accomplishments, the National Law Journal has twice named Victor Schwartz one of the 100 most influential attorneys in the United States, and the Washingtonian magazine has twice named him one of the top 50 lobbyists in the Nation's capital.
