Dr. Vindell Washington is Chief Clinical Officer for Care and Director of the Health Equity Center of Excellence at Verily, where he is responsible for clinical thought leadership, strategic planning, and high level product development. He focuses on strategies that will enable advanced technology solutions for healthcare transformation, engaging internal and external partners in developing tools and platforms for improving health outcomes and reducing costs of care.

Dr. Washington previously served as Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, where he oversaw network operations and contracting, medical policy and quality, disease management, and pharmacy benefits.

Prior to that, he was National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), where he provided high-level executive direction and leadership for ONC programs, operations, and policies.

Before joining ONC, Dr. Washington served as the President of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System Medical Group and as the health system’s Chief Medical Information Officer. Earlier, he served as the CEO of Piedmont Healthcare Management Group in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he led the development efforts of coding and billing process technologies.

Dr. Washington received a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia. He earned his Master of Science in Healthcare Management from the Harvard University School of Public Health. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
