Initiative to Educate Afghan Women Board of Director

The Initiative To Educate Afghan Women is very pleased to announce that Wazhma Furmuli has accepted its nomination the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.

Ms. Furmuli is a certified public accountant (United States) and certified accounting technician (United Kingdom) in the New York office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where she performs audits of multinational insurance companies focusing on consolidation process and SEC reporting. Prior to joining PwC, Ms. Furmuli worked in a variety of finance related capacities at Afghan Telecom Corporation, The American University of Afghanistan, Afghan Women’s Network, Randolph College and Genworth Financial. Ms. Furmuli has been active as a fundraiser and job fair promoter and is fluent in Dari, Pashtu, Urdu, and Hindi.

Ms. Furmuli graduated from Randolph College through The Initiative To Educate Afghan Women with a bachelor’s degree in economics and business in May 2011 where she was a member of the Dean’s List and recipient of numerous awards including membership in Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Economics Honor Society and best position paper and honorable mention at the National Model United Nations Conference.

Ms. Furmuli recently served as alumna representative on the Intersession 2013 Planning Committee working with Cathy Bristow and Lolita Chandler of Bridges Consulting in NYC to design a diversity seminar specifically tailored to the needs of our organization and the young Afghan women scholars it serves.

Wazhma Furmuli is only 27, but she’s lived several lives already. Born in Afghanistan in 1988, Furmuli was a child during the civil war that raged intermittently for more than three decades. She doesn’t remember much of it, except for when her family left.
