She is best known for ability as an improvisational actor. She was a series regular on two unscripted television shows, five unscripted feature films and was a member of the world famous Groundling Theater in Los Angeles. While a member of the Groundlings, McLendon-Covey was a classmate of comedians Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, with whom she would later star in the film Bridesmaids.

She is widely known for her role as Deputy Clementine Johnson on the Comedy Central television program Reno 911! She was a member of The Groundlings from 2002–2009 and starred in the Lifetime show Lovespring International in 2006. She has provided commentary for E!, TV Guide Channel, and VH1.

McLendon-Covey has been married since 1996 to Greg Covey. They live in Long Beach, California.
