Yannick Nézet-Séguin

Music Director at The Metropolitan Opera

Yannick Nézet-Séguin is a Canadian conductor and pianist. In September 2018, he became music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City (the third in its 135-year history)—two years earlier than originally expected, after the organization’s previous director was ousted amid accusations of inappropriate conduct. Prior to his role at the Met Opera, Nézet-Séguin served as music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra, a role he took up in 2012 and will continue alongside his Metropolitan Opera role. He has also served as artistic director and principal conductor of Montreal’s Orchestre Métropolitain since 2000. Nézet-Séguin studied piano, conducting, composition, and chamber music at the Conservatoire de musique et d'art dramatique du Québec in Montreal and choral conducting at the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.
