A Rwandan Survivor’s Journey to inspire.

Yannick Tona is a youth advocate, and current Youth Ambassador for Harmony.

Yannick is actively involved in issues of national and global concern regarding Youth.

A survivor of the Rwandan genocide

Since his horrific experience during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda, he has been also an advocate for raising awareness and action against genocide, and discrimination.

It is very sad that today we still see bullying in our schools and communities said Yannick on his speaking tour in Australia.

Yannick Tona G.U was born on the 24 of February 1990 in the Southern Province of Rwanda in Butare, the second biggest city in Rwanda.

Yannick is former Head of Childrens right Department in Peace and Love Proclaimers , Youth Programmes Coordinater at Centre Marembo/RYCO , Aegis Students International Programme office, Discover Rwanda Coordinater and a Aegis Youth Ambassador.

Involved in a number of Youth organizations for last 12 years, Yannick works to advocate for youth and educate the world about the genocide. Through his volunteer work, Yannick aspires to bring meaning to the common phrase never again and prevent further atrocities from staining the history of humanity with the blood of innocent people. Yannick also believes that the youth in the world are the key to resolve the challenges our communities face.

He said our responsibility as young people is to positively impact the present and the future of our communities and that all begins with us right now.

He believes that Governments, Civil society and International or National NGOs should invest in young people as they are the future leaders of our countries.

Yannick was also a member of the committee in charge of organizing the Celebrations of the International Volunteer Day and International Year of Youth in Rwanda in 2010.

Yannick Tona has been a Key Speaker and participant in many conferences, inspiring young people to make a difference in their communities. He is also an accomplished motivational speaker. He has travelled and spoken to more than 17000 youth and educators within Australia, Canada, and Rwanda during speaking tours in Schools, Conferences, Universities and Communities centres. He has met various public officials, MPs, Mayors, Cabinet Ministers and has been featured in a variety of local and international media.

In 2010 Yannick was awarded the White Rose Award by Aegis Students.

In March 2010 Yannick was named as Youth Ambassador for Harmony in Australia. Harmony Day is celebrated all over Australia on the 21st of March each year. Its a day where all Australians celebrate their cultural diversity. The day is also the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
