Yaphet Jackman

Yaphet Jackman is a self-motivated, creative and strategic thinker that is at the helm of the preservation and development of culture and the arts in Guyana.

He is currently a Senior Communication studies student at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen Campus, reading for his Bachelor’s Degree. Yaphet has 14 years of experience in the media and television industry working his way up from a part time camera operator to a seasoned editor and director of photography. He was the studio manager of a major advertising company in Guyana – Guyenterprise – at the tender age of 19.

He made further advancements that propelled him to other Caribbean territories. He served as a Television editor for a Cable company – K45 Karib Cable - that served 3 Caribbean islands – St. Vincent, Antigua and St. Lucia. He then later moved onto being the Studio Manager for the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Broadcasting Cooperation (SVGBC) later that year. He is a young film maker whose film has already been to 5 film festivals around the Caribbean and U.S.A.

Along with his technical background in Media and Television, Yaphet is also an advocate for child rights under the UNICEF Guyana initiative - Youth Media Guyana – which has given a voice to the voiceless youths in Guyana through all media. He’s written articles and edited many programs and features that highlight and investigate social ills and issues affecting Youth in Guyana.

His portfolio also includes facilitating training, mentoring and planning several literary events for spoken word and poetry in St. Vincent and Guyana. As the Special Projects Coordinator at W&T George and Company Ltd. Yaphet is responsible for all external initiatives of the Company. He has been able to create and produce the only television program that highlights and exhibits local spoken word artiste and poets across Guyana.

Yaphet is a hard worker and challenges himself to expand on his current ventures after his studies. He plans to move on to his Masters in film quite soon to be able to make a mark in the film history of Guyana and across the Caribbean.
