Ýmir Vigfússon is an Icelandic hacker, computer security expert, and Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Emory University, where he is the co-PI of the Simbiosys lab. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at the School of Computer Science at Reykjavik University in Iceland.

Vigfússon's research spans distributed systems and data science, and is motivated by the three beliefs that networked systems should effortlessly perform and scale, the best practical way to improve security is for people to really understand how things break, and clever use of technology can improve disease outbreak surveillance - think epidemics, like COVID-19.
