She attended the University of Akron, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, and later honed her acting skills at the Hollywood Acting Workshop in Los Angeles. Brown's breakout role came with her portrayal of Shirley Bennett on the critically acclaimed NBC comedy series "Community," which aired for six years.
