Since Van Amburg's appointment in 2005, the SPT slate has more than doubled with original network primetime series such as The Blacklist, Timeless and The Night Shift for NBC, The Good Doctor, The Goldbergs, Alex, Inc., the Emmy-winning Shark Tank, and the revivals of $100,000 Pyramid and The Gong Show for ABC, and last season's number one new comedy Kevin Can Wait and new fall procedural S.W.A.T. for CBS. The studio also boasts a prolific roster of primetime cable series that includes Better Call Saul and Preacher for AMC, as well as Outlander for Starz. Dick's Electric Dreams, The Dangerous Book for Boys, The Tick and The Last Tycoon for Amazon, and Shut Eye and Future Man for Hulu.

Van Amburg originated the division and secured multiple prime-time cable series that include Emmy Award-winning The Shield for FX, Huff for Showtime, as well as Ripley's Believe It or Not! for TBS, along with many others. The studio's large library also includes additional Emmys (2 Best Dramas), Golden Globes, and several AFI and WGA Awards.

Van Amburg then served as senior vice president of development and cable programming for SPT. Prior to that appointment, he was director of development for Sony's Game Show Network, and also launched the cable network, America's Talking (now MSNBC) for NBC. In addition, he has served as executive producer for several series for CNBC, and was a consultant for many series for Paramount Domestic Television.
