Zubaida Bai is regarded as a leader in the field of designing and engineering low-cost health products appropriate for the developing world. She has a Master’s in Engineering (product development and design) from Dalarna University, Sweden and an MBA (social and sustainable enterprises) from Colorado State University, USA. With over 6 years of experience in the social sector specifically in innovations in health and commercialization. Bai now heads AYZH, a social enterprise aimed at bringing technology solutions to rural women. Bai founded AYZH as a way to increase the income and health of women in rural India by enabling them to be the producers of tools like sterile birth kits, designed to help women thrive.
Bai’s professional experience, combined with her personal passion for empowering underserved women, led to her being selected as a TED India fellow (2009), Ashoka Maternal Health fellow (2010-2011), and most recently an Echoing Green fellow (2012). In 2011, Bai’s design of the flagship AYZH product JANMA the clean birth kit being chosen one of the 61 products globally designed to improve life by INDEX Awards. Now she and her growing company are expanding their kit style approach to include reproductive, maternal, child + adolescent health products, extending these values and empowerment to millions of women and children throughout the developing world. ayzh is positioned to become a leader in the space of sustainable, social business focused on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. In June 2016, Bai was named an SDG Pioneer at the UN’s SDG Global Compact Summit for her work. Also a World Economic Forum ‘Young Global Leader’, her passion and determination continue to attract strategic partnerships from around the world. Day by day ayzh puts life-changing products into the hands of women and health workers who need them the most. A guest speaker at the Women In The World Summit 2016, Bai's tireless and thoughtful advocacy for change led to a TED Residency in fall of 2016 in New York.
