Aloe Blacc

Singer-Songwriter, Rapper & Musician; Known for "I Need A Dollar" & "Wake Me Up"

Aloe Blacc is a rapper and singer-songwriter who embarked on his musical career after pursuing studies in linguistics and psychology at the University of Southern California. Blacc's portfolio spans from his initial association with the hip-hop duo Emanon to a successful solo career, marked by chart-topping hits such as "I Need a Dollar," "The Man," and his collaboration on Avicii's single "Wake Me Up." The latter song, which Blacc co-wrote, topped the charts in 103 countries, proving his global appeal.

Blacc's music is characterized by a blending of genres, drawing from R&B, hip-hop, reggae, and soul. His sound has evolved across several studio albums, including "Good Things," which was released in 2010 and certified gold in multiple countries, and "Lift Your Spirit," his major label debut released in 2013. Notably, he contributed to the 2014 FIFA World Cup album "One Love, One Rhythm," further extending his musical impact.

Blacc's creative ethos is based on a theme he refers to as A.I.M.: affirmation, inspiration, and motivation. This principle is reflected in his wide-ranging musicscape, from dance music to country, resulting in a distinctive songwriting genre that resonates with a theme rather than adhering to a specific musical genre.

In recent years, Blacc has expanded his repertoire beyond music, appearing on television shows like "The Voice," "Glastonbury," "The Falls Festival," "Dancing with the Stars," "The Bachelor," and "The Masked Singer," where he competed as "Mushroom" in Season 4. He also performed at high-profile events such as WrestleMania 31 and the NBA Finals halftime show in 2016.

Apart from his solo work, Blacc has collaborated with a host of notable artists, including Avicii, Pharrell Williams, Tiesto, Owl City, Gryffin, and as part of the music project Roseaux. His career has been recognized with several awards, including a Brit Award and a Grammy Award. Furthermore, Blacc uses his platform to effect positive change, being actively involved in the charity Malaria No More.

Blacc's latest releases include a collaboration with Shimza on the song "Darling" in 2024 and an album with Roseaux. As he continues to make music and share his talent, Blacc remains committed to creating songs that unite and uplift, as exemplified by the enduring global hit "Wake Me Up," an anthem of our generation that also spotlights the importance of mental health support.
