Amiyah Scott is an actress, model, author, dancer, and LGBTQ advocate best known for her role as Cotton on Lee Daniels' "Star" on Fox. With this role, Scott made history as the first transgender actress to play a transgender character on a major network television series. In addition to her acting career, she has showcased her expertise and passion for beauty as a guest judge on the TV show "Legendary" and through her own beauty line, Amiyah Beauty.
In a short time, Scott’s trailblazing brand in beauty, modeling, acting, and motivational speaking has garnered immense popularity among the trans community and beyond. She is a respected figure in the LGBT ball community, gaining popularity as an internet celebrity through videos of her performances in ballrooms.
Scott grappled with bullying and acceptance throughout her life, but she never let that deter her drive, ambition, or goals. Scott is the first transgender model to amass a large social media following on Instagram, as reported by VH1. Her unique, exotic, and gorgeous look is heavily sought after by fans who admire her hair, makeup, and fashion creativity.
In addition to modeling and acting, Scott made her mark when she was a teenager by pioneering the New Orleans underground ballroom scene. She was also seen in the eighth season of the "Real Housewives of Atlanta," adding to her diverse portfolio of television appearances.
Scott is a proud advocate of the LGBTQ community and has centralized her focus on giving a voice to transgender women. Consequently, she has started a foundation called Transgender Empowerment of America (TEA). Her activism and dedication to her community were recognized when she received the GLAAD Rising Star Award in 2018.
Scott aspires to be not only an inspiration to the LGBTQ community, but to anyone who has a dream. Her hope is that her story will motivate others to go after what they desire most, regardless of adversity, and to never lose sight of their goals. Her debut memoir, "Memoirs of a Mermaid," was published in 2019, offering an in-depth look into her journey and experiences.
