Azealia Amanda Banks is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actress. Raised in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, Banks began releasing music through Myspace in 2008, eventually being signed to XL Recordings at age 17. After releasing her debut single "212", she secured a recording contract with Interscope and Polydor Records, and later released her first extended play 1991. Banks' debut studio album, Broke with Expensive Taste, experienced several delays since its initial announcement before being released in 2014. In 2016, she released the mixtape Slay-Z. Her second studio album, Fantasea II: The Second Wave, is due to be released sometime in the future. Banks' outspoken views and controversial social media presence have been the subject of media scrutiny throughout her career.

Azealia Banks, the provocative hip-hop artist who made her debut last year with the album Broke With Expensive Taste, has just landed her first starring role in a feature film. She’ll play the title character in Coco, a drama for Lionsgate and Codeblack Films that will be directed by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA. She stars with Common, Jill Scott, Lucien Laviscount, Lorraine Toussaint and Hana Mae Lee. It has a script from Nicole Jefferson Asher and will be produced by Paul Hall. Pic is about to get underway.
