Lee Janzen attended small Florida Southern for college, rather than going to a big time program. Janzen led Florida Southern to the Division II national team championship in 1985 and 1986, and was the individual medalist in 1986. Janzen turned pro that year.

Janzen has posted eight victories in his PGA Tour career, most notably wins at the  1993 and 1998 U.S. Opens, both wins over the legendary Payne Stewart. In 1998, Janzen came from 5 shots back on the final day. Janzen has also played for two American Ryder Cup teams, in 1993 and 1997, respectively.

Janzen is a spiritual man of deep religious faith and frequently speaks about his Christian beliefs.
