My name is Yvonne Horvat Murphy. I was born at Edwards Air Force Base, California.   I am an Air Force Brat. I lived in England, Alabama, Ohio, Korea, Hawaii and Washington D.C., I met a Canadian professional hockey player, Mike Murphy when I was 19 years old. He was traded from the N.Y. Rangers to the Los Angeles Kings.    We were married 8 months later.. We have 4 children, Sean, Ryan, Breeann and Patrick.  

            Our family has lived in California, British Columbia, Wisconsin, Ontario and New York.      My husband has been in professional hockey with the National Hockey League for the past 35 years.  Being the wife of a professional hockey player/coach I quickly was introduced to pucks, sticks, ice, and the greatest game on earth hockey.

.   I have fallen in love with Canada over these past 20 years and it has become my adopted country however California will always be my home!

            Growing up a California girl, it was uncommon to see a puck or a game of hockey! My background is in show business as a Professional songwriter, singer, actor and broadcaster.  That background gave me the essentials to write an engaging, informative,entertaining book called Puckmommies. I was a contestant at the age of 18 for Miss California beauty pageant. I was on The Dating Game at 18 as well.  I have had principal roles in television such as Macgyver, St. Elsewhere, 21 Jump st. and  have been a professional recording artist , songwriter, and host of sports magazine shows in Vancouver and Toronto.   I have written extensively and have had a short story published in The Toronto Star.

   I moved from California to Canada but I was not prepared for the magnitude or the importance the game of hockey held in Canada. I learned about the politics of minor hockey.

In professional hockey there is a separate room for ‘wives only’ where we can escape the pressures of the game and the crowd.  In those 'wives rooms' I experienced extreme prejudice because I was American amidst Canadian wives and I met the strongest Christian women who changed my life!  My family doctor asked me what is the best and worst thing about your life .Immediately I said 'the best thing is my Faith in God'...nevermind the 'worst'...no such thing!   After my father was killed in a car accident when I was 15 years old and my brother was given last rites I realized there is no time to waste or to have pity party's!

 LIFE is a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised by Impossible situations!!!
