Eric B. Upin  

Chief Investment Officer Makena Capital Management

Mr. Upin is the Chief Investment Officer for Makena Capital Management, responsible for asset allocation, portfolio construction and risk management. He is also a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to Makena, Eric served as CEO of Sequoia Capital’s Heritage Endowment Fund. Previously, he was the CIO at Stanford University’s Stanford Management Company. Before joining the Stanford Management Company, he served as a Managing Director and Senior Equity Research Analyst at the investment banking firm, Robertson Stephens and later as the Director of Technology Research at Wells Fargo Securities. Prior to Robertson Stephens, Eric worked at the management consulting firm, Booz Allen & Hamilton and before business school, played key roles in 2 technology-related start-ups.

Eric sits on the Investment Committee of Washington University in St. Louis Investment Management Company, which oversees the University’s $4 + billion endowment and serves on the Stephen D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation Investment Committee in San Francisco.

Eric received a BA in Economics and Urban Planning from Washington University in St. Louis and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
