In 1998, as proof of Jimmy Vasser and partner Alex Zanardi's good fortune, Wheaties featured the team on a commemorative cereal box.

The team is just the second in CART history to win three consecutive championships. From 1996 through 1998, Vasser displayed the consistency, speed and talent to make him one of the best. He racked up eight victories since he joined the Target team and led all CART drivers in races completed in 1996 and 1997.

He started racing professionally in 1983 after graduating from the Jim Russell Driving School and started in the SCCA Formula Ford series, where he earned five wins in 11 races, the North American title and top rookie honors.

In 1992, his 222.313 mph qualifying speed at the Indianapolis 500 made him the fastest rookie in the field. In 1995, Vasser joined Target/Chip Ganassi Racing and the new partnership created one of the CART series' top young stars and one of the most popular drivers among fans. At the start of the 1999 season, Jimmy Vasser has a new three-year contract and a new teammate, Juan Montoya.
