Pulitzer Prize-Winning Columnist for The New York Times; Bestselling Author

Maureen Dowd, an American columnist for The New York Times and author, won the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary in 1999. Best known for her series of columns on the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, she became an op-ed writer in 1995. In August 2014, she expanded her role at The Times to also include staff writer for The Times Magazine.

Born in Washington, Dowd began her journalism career in 1974 as an editorial assistant for The Washington Star. She transitioned to The New York Times in 1983 as a metropolitan correspondent and then moved to The Times’s Washington bureau in 1986 to cover politics. Dowd's contributions to journalism have been recognized with several awards, including The Damon Runyon Award for Outstanding Contributions in 2000 and the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement in 2004. Her work delves into politics, Hollywood, and gender-related topics, often incorporating elements of popular culture to enhance her political commentary.

Throughout her career, Dowd has written about various political figures such as Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump. She is known for her critical and irreverent attitude toward powerful figures. She has been acknowledged for her impactful work, being named a Woman of the Year by Glamour magazine in 1996 and receiving the Matrix Hall of Fame award from New York Women in Communications.

Beyond her column work, Dowd has authored several books, including "Bushworld: Enter at Your Own Risk," "Are Men Necessary? When Sexes Collide," and "The Year of Voting Dangerously: The Derangement of American Politics." She has also contributed to Newsweek and made appearances on C-SPAN.

Maureen Dowd is a graduate of the Catholic University of America and continues to make significant contributions to journalism as a columnist, political writer, and feminist writer.
